The Most Important Question…
The most important question that anyone can ever answer is: “Do I know I would go to Heaven, if I were to die today?” The truth is that everyone will go somewhere after this life. Man will die and leave the mortal body that he lives in, but that is not the end of man.
God desires that no one would ever perish, and go to Hell (2 Peter 3:9b, “The Lord is…not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”). Yet, God is Holy. That means He is absolute Righteousness and Holiness. In His Heaven, no sin or evil of any kind will be permitted. Therefore, because everyone has sinned (Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”), all of mankind is excluded from having an eternity in Heaven.
However, the famous verse of John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The Holy God of Heaven provided a way by which sinful man could be forgiven of all his sin and, thus, be able to enter Heaven! That’s great news!
How can a person know their sins are forgiven, and that Heaven will be their eternal home? It is simply a matter of faith. The Bible, God’s Word, provides a clear answer to this question.
Acknowledge Your Own Sinfulness Against God
There is no one who has done only good (Romans 3:10), except Jesus Christ. All others have sinned against the Holy God of Heaven. In His holiness, He has no choice but to judge the sinner. The Scriptures warn the sinner to “flee from the wrath to come” (Matthew 3:7c).
There is no hope of anyone being able to merit eternal life and the forgiveness of sins on our own. We are incapable of doing enough good to offset our sinfulness, even if it were possible. It is by God’s grace that man can be saved (Ephesians 2:8-9). You must realize that, apart from Jesus Christ, you will never see Heaven.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
Romans 10:9 states, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Because everyone is a sinner, and cannot get to Heaven on their own, God provided a way. He loved the world so much that He gave His son, Jesus Christ, to come and take the sinner’s place under His divine wrath. Jesus Christ paid the debt of sin completely, when He died on the cross. Yet, God’s love also restrains Him. He will not force Himself on anyone, but He extends an invitation for everyone to believe in what He did. He invites all to trust in the work of His Son, Jesus Christ.
To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, is to put all of your trust on what He did on the cross. It is to quit trusting on anything that you might do, and to quit trying to earn God’s favor. He offers you forgiveness; if you will simply place your total trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, alone.
